A.F.I. Concert Summary/Rant

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 16, 2009, 5:27 PM
(Warning: This is long, it describes the A.F.I. concert I went to, but mostly it's a rant about the incidents that almost ruined the whole thing for me. 8D Read if you want.)
So, A.F.I. played at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel on October 14th. I went with :iconkaylasaur:.

We got there at 6 and waited outside in the cold for an hour. Singing Disney songs. xD Doors opened at 7 and we went in and got searched. The staff took the time to open EVERY pocket of Kayla's backpack and even went as far as opening her wallet to look in there. o.o
Went and bought a T-shirt and the guy behind the counter asked me if I was steampunk. I said I was a lil' bit. xD
ANYWAY, we went down to the floor and stood waiting. We saw a bunch of...interesting people. xD Also ran into Kayla's friend Kate with her boyfriend. Talked to them for a bit. It seemed to take forever for the opening act to go on. The opening act by the way, was The Gallows. Right, never heard of em, whatever.
They start and UGH okay the music was alright, but the vocals were like, hardcore gross, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD YOU'RE SAYING, type vocals. Kill me. ANYWAY, so a mosh pit opens up right behind us. We get moved over to the left a bit in an attempt to avoid it. THEN the singer jumps off the stage and tells everyone to move over. So the crowd splits like a retarded red sea and he walks through to the back of the lower level. Tells everyone to EXPAND the pit. Kayla and I get pushed all the way to the back corner of the lower level. I had my arms up as a barrier the entire time. >:[ NOT FUN. (The singer was British though, and he said bullocks! So, haha that was good.)
Finally they end their act and me and Kayla were able to get back to where we were before they started. Waiting waiting waiting.
A.F.I.

I was so fucking excited I can't explain it. They started with Torch Song, it sent chills through my body to hear it being played live, as I'd listened to Crash Love at least twice every day since a week before it was released.(I honestly think Crash Love is my favorite A.F.I. album.) After Torch Song, they played Girl's Not Grey. Mosh pit breaks down behind us again, and once AGAIN we get pushed back. x.x I was really sad, but it was better than getting punch and kicked and most likely knocked over. Fucking pits. UGH.
They followed Girl's Not Grey with another song off of Sing the Sorrow(I can't remember which.)
So after there's a moment of down time before the next song. Automatically there starts to be yelling from some people in the crowd. They were yelling the names of A.F.I's old songs, okay, they were yelling other things too though. It was all REALLY disrespectful! I couldn't even believe it. Obviously A.F.I. are touring to promote their new album, you should expect them to pay their new songs! Why would you go to a concert promoting a NEW ALBUM if all you want to hear is the REALLY old stuff? Luckily for them A.F.I tries to please all of their fans. They played three of their older songs, and they played more Sing the Sorrow songs than any others!
But STILL whenever they played a song off of Crash Love there was booing and more generally disrespectful asshole yelling going on! I wanted to scream at them.

I mean really, if A.F.I. had stayed the same, and played the same kind of music, and never changed at all, THEY WOULD BE A HORRIBLE BAND! I'm not saying that their old stuff is horrible, I'm saying that a band NEEDS to change, to GROW! If they don't do that they will never improve. Eventually, the fans would be whining, "All their stuff sounds the same, I'm bored of it." YEAH EXACTLY. A.F.I. has grown lyrically, they've grown with their music, they've grown with EVERYTHING. It seems a lot of bands a plagued with this kind of "fan." I see it a lot, but for A.F.I. it was seriously the worst.
It almost ruined the whole concert for me. Instead of going home and feeling satisfied with the convert and having that feeling of pure ecstasy like I usually do after concert, I was just pissed! All I could think about were those fucking "fans."

AND THAT'S ANOTHER THING! These "fans," they like to degrade fans that like A.F.I's new music. They say we aren't "real fans." I get it a lot since I don't LIKE A.F.I's older stuff. But you know what? I STILL RESPECT IT! I don't go around saying it sucks, I don't go around saying people who like it suck, I don't do any of that! I RESPECT IT. It's part of the bands past, it's important, it just happens to be a genre of music that I personally don't like listening to. WOW. Now you say I'm not a real fan, yet you go around saying the band sucks now, that their new music is shit, that they've "sold out." Yeah, fuck you guys. You obviously don't know what being a real fan means. Bastards.

So, I'm going to say it. I LOVE CRASH LOVE, IT'S MY FAVORITE A.F.I. ALBUM! I LOVE DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, IT'S ALSO ONE OF MY FAVORITES, I LOVE SING THE SORROW, IT'S MY SECOND FAVORITE. I DON'T LIKE A.F.I'S OLDER ALBUMS, BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY KIND OF MUSIC. DESPITE THIS, I AM AN A.F.I. FAN! THROUGH AND THROUGH I WILL SUPPORT THE BAND, NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION THEY DECIDE TO TAKE THEIR MUSIC!

Okay, I Feel Better Now.(;))
I had to get that out. It was bothering me more than anything. I'm going to go, and listen to A.F.I.(Yes, their most recent albums.) :) For people who read all that. CONGRATS. Hope you liked the pictures I got from the concert. I wish they had been a bit better but over all, I'm proud of them. :3

Oh btwwww, I fully recommend anyone who likes A.F.I. to go to one of their concerts. They were amazing. The performance was fantastic. I'd go again any day.(And if their show in Boston wasn't on a Sunday, I totally would be going. x3) And if you do go, I hope the fans in your area are a bit more respectful. It would seem unimportant, but I think the vibe in the audience can really make or break a show.

I noticed your little status under your Deviant name says "Need photoshop"

Just curious but, Have you ever tried the GIMP? It's a very similar program that is free.

Ah I should change that, a friend of mine gave me a copy of photoshop the other day. xD
I have indeed tried GIMP, and it wasn't too bad, but it was hard for me to use. >.< I think it's because I'm so used to working with photoshop, it was just a little tough to figure out how the layers worked and such. My biggest problem was finding a way to get a scanned line art to be on it's own layer so that I could color underneath it. Drove me crazy trying to figure it out. D: Long story short, I got frustrated and gave up. Ahh I suck. xD It appears to me though, that you are a true master of the GIMP. :worship:

Ah very nice! I have faved and bookmarked it. xD I wanna have it as a backup in case photoshop decides to hate on me again. :giggle: It's good to know that it's possible to do in the GIMP. 8D
